Halloween

The pupils will be excited and happy to talk about Halloween. Show them Jack O' Lantern's pumpkin lanterns. Either have them make mini pumpkins with oranges or red or green peppers with birthday cake candles or get them to make a big one for the class with you.
This can be fun but not always language effective so be resigned to using this time for handcraft activities.
Make the instructions clear however, and make sure the pupils use them.

1) Cut off the top of your: Orange, Pepper, Turnip or Pumpkin (to make a lid).
2) Give it a jagged shape.
3) Remove fruit and/or pips from inside.
4) Give the pumpkin: eyes, mouth and nose.
5) Make holes in lid.
6) Place candle inside pumpkin.
7) Light candle.
8) Put out lights in classroom.
9) Explain that they will now (or soon) learn a spooky song...

Explain this is a spooky song. Darken the room and light the pumpkin. Teach the chorus first. It is very simple, (plain chanting) and make the children sway as they sing it.
Mime the actions or draw a house with a garden path, front door, front stairs, bathroom, mum's bedroom on the blackboard, and move your puppet witch as you sing and become spookier.
